  理屈 もて 人が救えるものなれば 舌と活字で間に合ふならめ
267

If it were that human
Beings could be saved
Through reasoning alone,
The tongue and printed
Word should suffice.

If human beings
Could be saved by
Logic and theory,
Speech and printed matter
Would be good enough.

    理屈もて 説けぬ神秘を明らかに するこそ真の教なるらむ
268 To clarify the
Mysteries that cannot be
Explained through human
Logic and reasoning is certainly
The true teaching.

Sounds of the Dawn translation
It is my belief / That the Truth teaching of God / Cannot be explained, / Can never be clarified, / By merely theorizing.

Book of Gosanka translation
Using theories / To explain and clarify, / But that can’t be done— / Is the teaching that is Truth, / That comes from Great God of Truth.

八の字を 額に寄せて読ますとて 真理ならねば人は救へじ

269 Even though we may
Ponder and worry and
Study a matter
Diligently, if it is
Not truth, we cannot save others.
