The Symptoms of Diseases Discussed


     What are generally considered to be the symptoms of illnesses can be roughly divided into the following conditions: fever, pain, itchiness, unpleasantness, nausea, diarrhea, dropsy, night sweats, dizziness, sleeplessness, depression, paralysis, coughing, hot flashes, ringing in the ears, cramps, chills, and constipation. Each of these symptoms will be discussed in accordance with the principles that I have learned from my research.


 

Fever

     Throughout the years, medical science has sought to explain the cause of fever in various ways, and the theory accepted at present is that there functions in the brain a center that controls the generation of fever and that this center under some form of stimulus generates fever. There are also theories that credit fever to movement of the limbs as well as those to the liver and kidneys. Body temperature itself is said to be attributable to the combustion that arises from eating and digesting.
     To describe as a truth the characteristics of a fever-stimulating center in the brain, and how and in what way some kind of virulent element may stimulate this center to produce fever is probably impossible to explain in detail. Impossible because, as previously explained, there is no such thing as a center that stimulates fever, so theories of germ-stimulated fever do not stand. These fallacious theories probably appeared, I imagine, because in most cases when fever breaks out at the onset of a sickness, there is a high fever in the brain accompanied by headache, so it is mistakenly assumed that the center for producing fever is in the brain. Thus, it is considered proper to attempt to cool the head with ice for any condition involving fever. The theory that fever originates in the movement of the extremities is probably a simple inference made because such movement always causes a rise in body temperature that is akin to that which is generated at the start of the purification process. The misperception that fever is generated by the liver and kidneys arose because everyone always has to one degree or another slight fever in some area around the liver and kidneys due to the toxins that solidify in those places.
     But, there is probably no theory more ludicrous than that which has fever being produced during combustion that is said to occur during eating and digesting. The idea that combustion occurs in the digestive system in the midst of the eating process is quite bizarre. It was most likely inferred that the temperature of the human body is comparable to the heat produced by a heating stove. Digesting food was likened to burning coal.
     In advance of explaining the cause of fever according to the results of my research, it should be made clear that my ideas are probably appearing for the first time, so with this point in mind they should be carefully read and considered.
     All in the universe is formed from three major elements. That is to say, there is nothing that is not generated and developed as a consequence of the energy of these three major elements. These three elements are sun, moon, and earth. Sun is the origin of the element, the spirit if you will, of fire; moon, the spirit of water; and earth, the spirit of soil. The three elements of fire, water, and earth flow, mix, and fuse both vertically and horizontally. The vertical, warp if you will, consists of three levels, of the sun, the moon, the planet earth, from heaven to earth, as is obvious during a solar eclipse when the sun, moon, and earth align on three levels. To wit, the heavenly plane is the world of fire centered on the sun. The middle, intermediate plane is the world of water centered on the moon, and the planet earth is the world of soil.
     The horizontal, or woof, is the actual planet earth that we human beings inhabit. Our physical world on the planet earth is the existence of matter and the space around matter. Human beings can perceive the existence of matter with their five senses, but for the greater part of human history, space around the earth was taken to be nothing. In the progress of civilization, we have learned that the space in which we live is not nothing but is composed of air, which I categorize as half-substance. I have further learned that within the space around us, which until now was thought to consist only of air, exists another element. I refer to this element as a form of greiki,h or spirit. In some religions, the world of spirit is said to be made up of living spirits, dead spirits, and possessing spirits. Ascetics and mediums speak of gthe spirit,h and in the West, the development of spiritual science has spurred great progress into research of the spirit and the spiritual world. Books such as Sir Oliver Lodgefs The Survival of Man, and J. S. M. Wardfs Gone West can be given great credence, but the sphere and aim of the research that I present here differs completely.
     Essentially, the basic element of substance is earth. All substance, the material, comes from earth and returns to earth, as is well known. Next, the basic element of water, which is half substance, emanates from the moon and infuses the air. Reiki, or spirit, radiating from the sun is neither substance nor half-substance but non-substance, until today, undiscovered. Stated most simply, earth is substance; water, half-substance; and fire, non-substance.
     As described above, these three elements, the element of substance which is soil, the element of air which is water, and the element of spirit which is fire, fuse and in this fusion, energy is generated. In scientific terms, you could call these three elements which are particles of unimaginably infinitesimal size that fuse and activate, the very essence of the universe. Therefore, that the air we breathe is of a suitable temperature, dryness, and humidity for living beings results from the harmonious fusion of the spirit of fire and the spirit of water. If the spirit of fire did not exist and the world was only spirit of water, all would congeal instantly, and conversely, if there were no spirit of water and only spirit of fire, all would instantly burn and become nothing. The elements of fire and water fuse with the spirit of earth, and earth generates energy from which all is brought forth and develops. It is their nature that fire burns vertically, longitudinally, along the woof, and that water flows horizontally, latitudinally, with the warp. Fire burns with the help of water and water flows assisted by fire. This concept is expressed in graph form below [graph omitted].
     Since antiquity, the human being has been referred to as a small cosmos and the principles outlined above apply to the human body as well. Fire, water, earth correspond in the human body to the heart, lungs, stomach, respectively. The stomach ingests that which is produced from the soil; the lungs absorb oxygen, the spirit of water; and the heart absorbs the spirit of fire. Hence, the heart, lungs, and stomach function to absorb within the human body the three basic elements of fire, water, earth. The principle described here can be understood by observing the important role these three functions occupy in the constitution of the human body. Because the existence of the spirit of fire was completely unknown until now, the heart was simply thought to be an organ for the blood, only used to send impure blood to the lungs and circulate blood purified with oxygen throughout the body.
     To summarize, the stomach absorbs food, that is, the spirit of earth, which has been taken in through the mouth and the throat, the lungs absorb the spirit of water through breathing, and the spirit of fire is absorbed through the beating of the heart.
     Consequently, one gets sick or becomes feverish because fever arises in order to dissolve toxins solidified in an affected region of the body, for which the necessary amount of fever, that is, spirit of fire, is absorbed by the heart from the spiritual world. The beating of the heart acts as a pump to draw in from the spiritual world the spirit of fire. In advance of fever generation, the beating of the heart, that is, the pulse, increases and absorption of the spirit of fire grows in frequency. The chills one feels during illness arise because the amount of the spirit of fire available for body temperature is temporarily reduced as is being consumed the heat necessary for fever during the purification process. The reduction of fever means that the process of dissolving the toxins in the affected region has come to a close.
     Throughout the process of absorbing the spirit of fire from the spiritual world, the heart does not rest for a moment. This absorption process maintains body temperature. The lungs continually absorb the spirit of water through breathing air, so the moisture taken into the body, in addition to that which is ingested through the mouth, amounts to quite a great deal.
     Conversely, when the human being dies, the body temperature drops and chills, moisture disappears, the blood coagulates, and the corpse starts to dry out. To fully explain the death process, the living spirit leaves the physical body at the time of death and enters the spiritual world. Because the spirit of fire of the living spirit disappears, moisture condenses. In other words, the living spirit which is the spirit of fire, returns to the spiritual world, moisture returns to the air, and the physical body returns to the soil.
     Here should be added an observation about the thermometers that are used to measure fever in the human body. Doctors as well as members of the general public believe that measuring fever with a thermometer to be thoroughly accurate, but as far as I am concerned, mechanical measurement is most incomplete. This is why.
     When fever is generated, the source of that fever is one specific location in the body. Although it is generally thought that fever affects the entire body, this viewpoint is highly erroneous. When I treat a patient with a temperature of about forty degrees, the source of that fever is the action occurring to purify a solidified lump of toxin about the size of a fingertip. When this lump has been dissolved, fever immediately decreases wherever it is in the body. Fever is generated throughout the entire body when a strong degree of purification activity starts, but a weak level of purification brings about fever only around a specific area, radiating outward, and areas outside the affected area will be, more or less, unaffected. Therefore, when the thermometer is inserted between the armpit and upper body as is the custom in Japan, the thermometer will show evidence of fever that has been generated in the areas of disease nearby, such as the purifying activity of the solidified toxins in the joints of the arm or intercostal neuralgia, but will not indicate accurately fever in areas distant from the armpit such as the crotch, kidneys, and head. Moreover, the temperature of the armpit measured on the right side and the temperature of the armpit taken on the left side may also differ slightly. In extreme cases, this difference is as much as five percent in some individuals. This is why I state that measuring fever by thermometer is incomplete.
     Rather, the way I measure heat and fever allows me to locate even the most minute fever. Touching the suspected area with the palm of the hand allows a person to accurately detect even the slightest fever. Of course, learning to determine precisely such slight differences in fever takes much practice but most individuals can pick up the technique in about a year.
     How erroneous it is to use physical techniques to try to cool and chill high fevers is another topic that should be addressed. The fact that the appropriate body temperature is between thirty-six and thirty-seven degrees means that these temperatures are appropriate for the proper functioning of the body. The use of an ice pack means to apply the temperature of ice, that is, close to zero degrees, to the human body, so it is only natural that the functions of the area to which such cold is applied will be severely impaired. Medical treatment calls for application of cold to the brain area in instances of high fever, such as in cases of anemia, inflammation of the lungs, and typhoid fever, but according to the principles I have described above, if such measures are taken, the brain may harden, leading to impairment of the bodily functions that can cause paralytic anemia. In many instances people die not from their original condition but from the standard medical treatment.
     Cooling and chilling do invite bad effects, but especially so because chilling forcibly halts the purification process. Cooling and chilling therefore should absolutely be stopped.
     Finally, another important point to be noted is the reactionary effect of antipyretics. The general public and even medical professionals probably never conceive that the continuous use of antipyretics for certain conditions, usually over a week or so, will gradually bring about a reverse reaction. This reaction is a response to the effects of antipyretics, just as in the reaction, the rebound, that occurs when pressure is applied to a physical object. Reaction is all based on the same principle, as for example, constipation occurring in reaction to the use of laxatives and the amount of urine production decreasing in reaction to the ingestion of diuretics. Medical practice calls for antipyretics to be ingested in the case of fever. Because antipyretics are used, fever occurs and the cycle continues. A fever that may have started out at around thirty-seven or thirty-eight degrees can rise to over forty degrees with the continual use of antipyretics. Such occasions trouble doctors who label them as fevers of unknown cause. The instances of stubborn fever in patients with pulmonary diseases are quite common for this reason. Antipyretics are used for the purpose of eliminating fever but ingestion of antipyretics instead results in fever. It is truly terrifying that this reverse effect has not come to be recognized.





Pain

 
     As previously described, pain, physical pain, occurs during the purification process when fever dissolves solidified toxins. As the liquefied toxins seek an outlet, they move through the body, irritating the nerves of the muscles. This is the cause of most instances of pain.
     The symptoms of the kind of pain I have just explained appear in diverse conditions from appendicitis, acute peritonitis, acute nephritis, headaches, toothaches, tympanitis to rheumatism, and the various types of neuralgia. The cause of the kind of pain located in the bones that has been named periostitis results from the purification activity of the solidified toxins in the periosteum that dissolve and cause irritation as they move from the periosteum to the muscles.
     Another cause of pain is when the solidified toxins on the inside surface of the periosteum dissolve in the purification process, they open microscopically small holes in the bones as they seek an exit. The number of these holes varies with the amount of toxin, and of course, the severity of the pain increases with the number of holes. Such is what is occurring in instances of the conditions known as costal caries, tympanitis, toothache and also osteomyelitis. When there happen to be an innumerable number of holes, doctors say that the bone has putrefied, but this judgment is erroneous. We know it is mistaken because after the toxins have dissolved and left the body, the bones return to their original, perfect condition.
     The distinctive kinds of pain such as from whitlow in the fingers, from gangrene in and around the toes, and in the pain from anal fistula naturally all occur during the elimination of toxins in the purification process, but these are very pernicious toxins, hence the pain is severe. In these instances, the first and the second stages of purification are occurring together, which often happens during the years of youth, the period of the most vigorous purification activity in a personfs life. Doctors say that in these conditions the putrefaction will move to neighboring areas, but this opinion is also completely erroneous. Throughout my wide experience in treating these conditions, I have observed that toxins will accumulate only to a certain level and will not increase over that level. The toxin accumulation swells to that extent and then a hole opens naturally and the impure blood in the form of puss is eliminated. When this process is over, the condition completely heals. But as this condition looks at one glance as if the flesh is decomposing, practitioners of medical science mistakenly call it putrefaction, and so they amputate the affected part which creates a disabled human being. To repeat, on the basis of my long years of experience, I declare that whitlow and gangrene are not instances of putrefaction.
     The pain caused by gastrospasm is a separate issue which I will discuss in the section on diseases of the stomach, so I omit it here.
     There is also the pain that follows from afflictions such as burns and external injuries, but as this type of pain is not due to illness, it will definitely heal naturally if left alone. Pain that happens to continue for an inordinately long period of time or the burns and injuries that do not heal both result from the use of disinfectants. If the use of all medications is stopped and the affected area merely cleaned with clear water, the wound will heal naturally.
     As shown, there is a great variety of pains that come about as a result of disease, but the cause of almost all pain is medicinal toxins. The kind of pain and symptom differ by the type of medicinal toxin.
     Chinese herbal medicines, in my experience, are characterized by causing a dull pain over a large area distinguishing them from Western medicines that usually result in one specific area distinctive varieties of sharp pain, the most frequent ranging from that which feels like a bolt of lightening, that which feels like a piercing needle, to that severe type of pain that feels like drilling.
     To be noted is that injected medicines particularly are often the cause of severe pain.
     There is also pain caused by uric toxins, but this pain is usually light. There is hardly any pain with congenital toxins, so they are often mistaken by doctors for congenital syphilis.




 

Itching


     The suffering that is caused by pain in the human body is quite familiar to all, but probably only those who have had the actual experience know the suffering that accompanies itchiness. Pathological itchiness is truly distressful, in no way inferior to pain. The cause of itching are three varieties of toxins, medicinal toxins, congenital toxins, and food poisoning, and I will start by discussing the itchiness that stems from medicinal toxins.
     To begin, of all the conditions that cause itchiness, the one probably most well known is hives. The cause of hives is usually calcium injection. The outbreak of hives to one degree or another can be observed in everyone who has received these injections. The reactions appear as early as a year, usually about two to three years, and sometimes as long as five or six years after the injection. Medical treatment recommends calcium injection for hives, and there is a favorable but temporary effect. As time passes, however, the hives break out again. Everyone knows that morphine addicts can be temporarily relieved of their pain by the injection of morphine and in the same way, for treating symptoms of poisoning, medicines that are the cause of that poisoning are used and there is a temporary benefit. Because hives are a form of purification that eliminates medicinal toxins through the skin, if left alone and the suffering can be endured for a certain period, the condition will heal. The symptoms of hives vary by person, but they are all easy to identify because they are accompanied by extreme itchiness. Antipyrine poisoning and certain types of injections can also cause hives, but all will heal naturally.
     Next is a condition that has a false similarity to hives, a disease with rashes or eruptions. Unlike the millet-shaped eruptions of hives, the eruptions of this condition are rather more granular, larger, and in severe cases, almost as big as beans. In lighter cases, the eruptions are local, but in severe cases, can spread all over the body. The itchiness is quite painful, and a very thin puss is continually being discharged. In rare cases, the puss concentrates in one area and forms a growth like a boil. The progress of the disease takes a long time. At the shortest, cases last about six months and longer cases can stretch into several years. Some patients with severe cases even contemplate suicide it is such a terrifying disease. Even after recovery has been pronounced, though, the condition often remains localized and complete recovery may take several years. The cause of this condition are dormant congenital toxins, so the disease should properly be called chronic smallpox, in contrast to genuine cases of smallpox which are acute. The condition is a result of weakening from smallpox of the purification function. The surface of the skin of patients in the peak period of the disease appear to resemble that of patients during smallpox.
     Finally, I mention the cases of fish poisoning which has symptoms like hives. The condition presents with flushed skin either locally or all over the body, with fever, rashes, and itching, but it can be healed in two or three days. This is a type of food poisoning that bears a slight relationship to the intestines, but doctors misdiagnose it as hives caused by calcium poisoning, and locate the main cause in the intestines to which they direct their main treatment, but since their measures are off the mark, they have no effect.




Discomfort and Nausea

     The term discomfort as related to disease covers several aspects and none of the symptoms are fixed, but to note, the important ones include nausea, cramps, chills, sea- and car-sickness, haziness of consciousness, impatience. Probably most common is nausea. The causes of nausea include such conditions as gastric reflex from cerebral anemia, high fever, food and drug poisoning, gastric disturbance, and pyloric senosis.
     Of the causes of nausea, gastric reflex from cerebral anemia, high fever, and food poisoning should need no explanation, so I shall discuss drug poisoning, gastric disturbance, and pyloric senosis. Nausea caused by drug poisoning occurs when the liquefied forms of the ingested drug have permeated through the membrane of the stomach wall which they fill and where they remain. As time passes, they turn into toxins and return to the stomach where they solidify. When purification action starts, the toxins dissolve, producing the feeling of nausea that leads to vomiting. The secretion that is eliminated in vomiting smells like the ingested drugs that caused it.
     Next, gastric disturbance is the elimination of bile. Bile, which has the role of helping digestion, is continually flowing through the inside of the stomach and when its flow, whether through the suspension of eating or damage from drugs, is impeded, bilefs role in aiding digestion is impaired, and elimination of toxins is caused through vomiting.
     Finally, the nausea from pyloric stenosis occurs when that which has been digested by the stomach seeks to descend to the intestines, finds it difficult to pass because of stricture. Instead of continuing to descend, the digested matter returns backwards to the stomach, which produces the sensation of nausea. It is clear that with these symptoms, digestion of solid foods is impossible and that only fluids and soft foods which do not cause nausea can be ingested by patients. In this case even when the gate in the stomach has narrowed due to pyloric stenosis, foods will pass if they are in fluid form.



 

Diarrhea

     Diarrhea is one of the most frequently occurring symptoms of disease and is distinguished either as acute or chronic. Most cases of acute diarrhea result from food or drink poisoning. You often hear people say acute diarrhea is due to night chills, but most of the time, this is not true. Diarrhea from chills is extremely rare. For cases of diarrhea from food poisoning, drugs are introduced to try to stop the stool or else castor oil is used to encourage the discharge, but these treatments really do not work. Best results come from simply allowing the diarrhea to discharge naturally.
     In cases of acute diarrhea that result from other than food poisoning, there is a type of diarrhea accompanied by sudden, extreme pain. This kind of diarrhea can occur anywhere from ten times to extreme cases of even twenty-to-thirty times a day. Rare are the cases where it occurs so often it cannot be counted and the patient may not even be conscious of it as it leaks as liquid stool into the undergarments. Sometimes it may appear as if, mixed with bloody fluids, rotten flesh is being discharged with the stool. Such discharges are all instances of solidified pus and toxic blood being eliminated in a strong purificatory action, and in no way are these fragments of flesh or organs discharging with the stool. It may safely be said that such instances of severe diarrhea hardly ever occur in the elderly but often in the young, so it is clear that cases of severe diarrhea are examples of vigorous purification. Thus, if left alone, recovery is certain. Cases of severe diarrhea terribly frighten both doctors and patients who seek to bring it to an end, but medical treatments that aim to stop diarrhea only exacerbate the condition. Cases of diarrhea worsened by medical treatment deserve caution because of the danger that such conditions can even lead to death of the patient.
     Chronic cases of diarrhea may last several months or even several years. Many doctors consider chronic diarrhea to be tubercular and so apply measures to halt the diarrhea, but such treatments are also in great error. What is occurring is that the pus that has remained solidified in the peritoneum dissolves gradually from purificatory activity that is sluggish, and the toxins are discharged as diarrhea. The pus is the continual accumulation of uric toxins in the peritoneum due to constriction of the kidneys, so this particular condition cannot be cured without making the kidneys healthy. However, if left alone over quite a long period, constriction of the kidneys naturally heals, so when the membranes heal, the diarrhea ceases.

 


Dropsy and Night Sweats


     Dropsy, also known as edema, has two causes. Both are due to impediments, either in the kidneys or in the urinary bladder. When the cause of dropsy is kidney damage, as was explained previously as well about kidney diseases, the damage results from excess urine due to constriction of the kidneys. Light symptoms are local, while serious symptoms can extend over the entire body.
     There are many instances of dropsy where either the left or right side is particularly affected, which happens because the side that presents the most with symptoms of dropsy has constricted kidneys. Most cases of dropsy are caused by constricted kidneys, but in rare instances the cause can also be in the bladder. When the bladder is the cause of dropsy, it is because grains of solid pus block urine from passing down through the mouth of the urethra from the bladder or the ureter. Impediment of the flow of urine becomes the cause of dropsy. Whatever the cause, however, dissolving the solidified medicinal toxins will easily and completely heal the condition.
     An interesting aspect of dropsy is chronic edema. Acute cases are quickly identified, but in chronic cases, the urine backs up without attracting notice and neither the doctor nor even the patient perceive what is happening. In those conditions, chronic edema may continue gradually for several years or several decades, and the toxins solidify under the skin, so it particularly common in obese individuals. Since such people are pathologically obese, physical problems are likely to occur at any time. In this regard is the following absurd incident. There was a female student who was overweight, rather plump, in fact. At a glance, she looked to be in perfect health, so the school doctor chose her after physical checkups from among three candidates as the model healthy student from her prefecture. But once in a while she felt pain in her chest, became completely fatigued, experienced swelling in her stomach, and complained of overall sluggishness, so she came to me. I examined her and surprisingly, I found the condition described above. She was obese from chronic edema caused by solidified toxins all over her body. With Johrei treatment, her urine output quickly increased, she lost more than seven kilograms and became truly healthy. As these symptoms are rather common, even people who seem to be the picture of health should take heed.
     In patients where doctors have already diagnosed edema, when there are no proteins in the patientfs urine, the doctors will say that the cause of the edema is not in the kidneys but in the heart, but this is an error too foolish for words. The heart has nothing to do with urine. Doctors make diagnoses of the presence of kidney disease based only on an observation of proteins, because medical science is not aware of the existence of a form of kidney disease without proteins.
     In addition to the types of edema described above, there are also instances where the edemas is localized. Most of these are cases where edema suddenly breaks out in localized areas such as in the area of the legs below one or both of the knees or in the wrists. Unlike cases where the cause of the edema is in the kidneys, most of these localized cases result from the purification and liquefication of solidified medicinal toxins, especially from such medical therapies as injections, and are also easily treated with Johrei.
     Medical science views night sweats to be being caused by overall physical debility, but this interpretation is completely backwards. Night sweats are the result of vigorous purificatory action, so even in cases of patients who do not experience night sweats, with treatment, night sweats will start to occur, and from this stage, recovery will begin which shows that night sweats are indeed one result of purification. In addition, this principle is clear also as cases of night sweats in the elderly are few and prevalent in the young.
     As we are on the topic, allow me a general discussion of sweat. It is customary that the healthier the person, the greater will be the generation of sweat and that the weaker an individual becomes, the less is sweat generated, some generating none at all. There are those who generate sweat only locally, and in these instances, usually on only one side of the body or on the other. Such occurs because the kidney on that side of the body is constricted. Due to the constriction of only this kidney, slight amounts of uric toxins are always accumulating on that side. The accumulated uric toxin turns to sweat and is eliminated. There are some people who seem to sweat anytime for no reason at all, but this condition occurs for the same reason as described above, so it is pathological.




Dizziness and Insomnia


     Dizziness is quite a prevalent condition, and its cause is deemed by medical science to be completely unknown. Its causes, however, are quite clear and simple.
     Dizziness can have two causes. One cause is solidified toxins in the areas of the right side behind the neck and of the hindbrain that put pressure on the blood vessels which flow to the eye balls. The act of seeing, looking at an object is an activity of the nerves, and the energy for that activity comes from the blood that is sent without interruption to the eyeballs. So, if these vessels are constricted by solidified toxins, the amount of blood decreases, and at the very moment the amount of blood is lowered, the nerves begin to break down and the eyesight weakens. The solidified neck and hindbrain toxins harden even more due to stage one purificatory activity, but because this form of purification is not constant, at times eyesight weakens and at other times, strengthens, so the instances of these occurrences are intermittent, which presents with the symptoms of dizziness. This cause is the most frequent.
     Another cause is the purification activity of medicinal toxins that have accumulated between the front forehead and the area around the eyeballs for which there is always a slight fever. This slight fever affects the vision, much in the same way that one gets dizzy when having a general fever with headache, becoming drunk on alcohol, or getting directly in front of a burning stove or fire.
     The cause of insomnia, also clear and simple, is almost identical to dizziness. The solidified lumps that cause dizziness purify intermittently, but in the case of insomnia the blood vessels are constricted at a steady rate, not irregularly as in dizziness, and the constriction leads to anemia. Anemia brought about in this way causes hypersensitive neuralgia, from which one thing leads to another, and the patient becomes overly preoccupied with matters and affairs. For that reason, when I treat someone for insomnia, I aim to dissolve the accumulated, solidified toxins in the neck and hindbrain. As the toxins dissolve the condition heals appropriately in a short period. All the cases that I have treated have, without exception, been successful.





Melancholia, Paralysis, Cramps


     Melancholia has a variety of causes and a variety of symptoms, but its most common forms result from stiffness in the neck and shoulders. As is related in the relevant chapters, pressure from stiffness decreases the supply of blood to the brain, causing anemia that leads to melancholia.
     As interesting aspect in this regard are infants, whose dispositions are always changing, becoming unhappy and crying. Doctors are perplexed because they have no idea at all of the reason for these changes in mood. In most of these instances of crying and irritability, though, babies have stiff shoulders. It may be amazing to think that an infantfs shoulders could be stiff, but it is an undisputable fact, that is clear because when we treat the shoulders of infants who cry and are irritable, we soon see their dispositions recover, returning to normal. Another cause for melancholia is the slightly feverish condition that is always present due to the constant purificatory activity of the toxins in the front and back part of the head. Still another are toxins in the stomach region whose purification causes a slight fever that also leads to melancholia. Thus, the cause of most cases of melancholia are medicinal toxins, but rarely there do occur cases of melancholia whose cause is spiritual, so I will discuss these instances of melancholia in the chapters on spiritual diseases.
     Paralysis has various causes and symptoms and the most common form is beriberi. This instance of paralysis will be discussed in the chapter on beriberi. Other causes of paralysis stem either from medicinal toxins introduced through injections (most of whose instances occur in the fingers) or in regions where surgical incisions have healed. In each of these cases, with the passage of time, if left alone, the paralysis will heal gradually. In addition, palsy may be the cause of localized paralysis. These cases of paralysis are not easily healed, but there are rare cases that heal naturally.
     Cramps may have two causes. One cause is a most acute level of purification, and when this purification is in the form of acute high fever, it can often lead to diseases in the brain. The second form are the symptoms of spasms in the stomach and intestines which are also both severe forms of purification. Cramps in infants are sometimes considered dangerous because of the intense pain, but it is fair to say that cramps are hardly ever fatal, and most cases will heal with the passage of time.
     Cramps also have spiritual causes which will be taken up in the relevant chapters.




Coughing and Vertigo


     Coughing has already been discussed, but I would like to explain a few additional points. The fact that any localized area of the body may be the origin of coughing is as previously been explained, so theories by medical science that place the cause of coughing on problems relating to the throat are quite ill conceived. Attempts to prevent coughing based on therapies involving breathing are ineffective is another point which is as I have previously made, but here I would like to discuss the reason for the difference between strong and weak coughs. Coughs are strong because when the phlegm is thick or the amount is large, energy is needed for suction, that is, to pull the phlegm up and out. In contrast, phlegm is not as dense and the amount, less, in weak coughs. In cases of light coughing, there are instances where no phlegm can be observed at all, but at such times the phlegm is quite minute and in most cases is eliminated in small quantities a great while after the coughing has stopped.
         Phlegm, the source of coughing, can be from the most unexpected of local areas throughout the body. Whether the legs, the brain, or the face, these areas would probably never be imagined as sources for coughing according to the theories of medical science. No room for doubt is there, however, as can be observed when I treat a patient, by the coughing that occurs in the twinkling of an eye after I dissolve the toxins of a patient in any of the areas mentioned above.
     The cause of vertigo, or dizziness, is not the rushing of blood to the brain, as most people think, but from the fever that occurs when purification dissolves the toxins that have accumulated and solidified in places on the face. The skin reddens from the fever and, as these toxins dissolve, the condition will heal.




Chills and Constipation


     The source of feeling cold are localized fevers and accumulations of solidified toxins in localized areas throughout the body. Most people feel coldness in the small of the back, lower stomach, legs, and feet. The fever that is generated by the purificatory activity of toxins that have accumulated in these local areas causes chillness in localized areas. So, just as chillness all over the body is felt as chills, locally affected areas are perceived as coldness. Therefore, when chillness affects the entire body, the body does not feel warm regardless of how many layers of clothing are worn, which is the same reason why, in cases where the lower body feels cold, women still feel cold even after they put on stomach bands. There are persons who from their knees to their toenails feel extreme coldness. In these cases, the accumulations of solid toxins cause poor circulation, and as these areas are easily exposed to the air, feeling cold increases and becomes chronic.
     Constipation is quite common, and some suffer for decades from this condition. The cause of constipation are solidified toxins that have accumulated in the region between the peritoneum, that is, around the navel, and the lower stomach. Because these toxins constrict the rectum, which is the path for excrement, the passageway narrows, hardened excrement is blocked, and passes only with great difficulty. Constipation can be healed easily if these toxins are dissolved, so when I treat patients, they recover without exception.
     Individuals who tend to be constipated can eliminate with the use of laxatives, even if with pain. Laxatives for constipation can be compared to what happens when a toxic element in food causes food poisoning which leads to nausea or diarrhea. Nausea and diarrhea are natural purificatory activities that occur to eliminate toxic elements that were ingested. Laxatives follow the same principle. Medicines that cause toxication are ingested which in turn causes food poisoning, which becomes diarrhea or liquefied excrement. Because this process first liquefies and then pushes out the hardened and impacted excrement, the liquefied form is able to pass readily through the constricted rectum. But, with continuous ingestion over a long period, the harmful effects of the toxicity worsen, leading to kidney disease, and other conditions, and in some cases, even death.
     Constipation causes concern among those who practice medical science who think that it could cause disease. This idea also is a great error. In my experience of healing many diseases, I had one male patient, some forty years old, whom I treated for stomach cancer. With two monthsf treatment, he recovered completely, but during treatment, there was a period when he did not have a stool for twenty-eight days. The absence of elimination had no effect whatsoever on his disease. I understand that even now the man is healthy, engaged in farming. Later, I had another patient who told me of having been constipated once for a two-month period, and still another patient, for six months. Neither of those two persons had anything relating to constipation wrong with them. As can be seen from these accounts, constipation itself has no ill effect whatsoever.
     Current medical practice also holds that, if untreated, constipation will lead to autotoxemia that can become the sources for diseases, but such thinking is another error. How did such an explanation ever come about? It may have been imagined that impacted excrement would somehow seep into the blood stream, but since I have discovered the truth about the internal aspects of the human body, I do believe that such words as autotoxemia will disappear from the vocabulary.




Commentary


     The text of this commentary is the same as that for gSymptoms of Diseases Discussed, Gospel of Heaven.h
     This commentary will discuss noteworthy bibliographic details of the work titled gSymptoms of Diseases Discussed.h gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh is the English translation I have given to two different works, similar and yet different. The original Japanese-language titles of both these works differ but slightly. gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh first appears in Meishu-samafs works in the three versions of Medicine for Tomorrow, Volume 2 (Myônichi no Ijutsu Dainihen). In Medicine for Tomorrow, Volume 2, the original Japanese-language title is gByôki Shôjô to Sono Kaibô,h which could literally be rendered as gSymptoms of Diseases and Their Dissection.h gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh then appears in Gospel of Heaven (Tengoku no Fukuin). In Gospel of Heaven, the original Japanese-language title is gByôki Shôjô no Kaibô,h which could literally be rendered as gDissection of the Symptoms of Diseases.h Both literal renderings are rather clumsy English, but although the Japanese originals differ slightly, I have kept my English translation the same for both because the Japanese originals are so similar that they can be confused.
     The descriptions of the contents and publication histories of both volumes are detailed in The Light from the East where they are listed in the index both as separate entries and also under gOkada, Mokichi, Writings.h
     Outside of the original Japanese-language texts, this booklet is probably the only other ocassion that the distinct elements that make up gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh have been published together. There are various reasons for this, but aside from the issues that impinge on church history and on the various subjective views of how to treat the teachings of Meishu-sama, this commentary will explore only the bibliographic factors of gSymptoms of Diseases Discussed.h
     In both Medicine for Tomorrow, Volume 2 and Gospel of Heaven, gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh is treated typographically the same way in the table of contents and in the main text (not necessarily a given in many Japanese-language texts). That is, gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh is represented as the title of an gessayh or gchapterh of the book, and each symptom or group of symptoms is listed as a sub-section, shown clearly by the smaller yet still larger-than-main text-size type of the sub-section title. In as much as the organization of documents is a subjective decision to begin with, it should be noted that the two main indexes of anthologies of Meishu-samafs teachings list gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh as a whole as a separate teaching as well as listing each distinct sub-section as a separate teaching, so any simple attempt to arrive at the number of Meishu-samafs teachings, in this case, essays, by merely counting index entries is doomed to miscount.
     As can be seen from the texts themselves, gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh consists of an introduction that corresponds to about six lines in English and then starts with the symptom of fever, so as gteachings,h the six lines of introduction do not seem to have any meat, and it appears obvious why the individual symptoms, which do have meat, could be and are considered distinct teachings or essays. Still, it is also obvious from studying the original text that these ten distinct sections were originally conceived as a whole.
     What makes looking at these distinct elements as a whole interesting is that Medicine for Tomorrow, Volume 2 and Gospel of Heaven are the only works where Meishu-sama discusses the symptoms of the diseases in such detail. In other works, whether essays or testimonial critiques, symptoms are often mentioned in passing but rarely become the title, much less the contents, of an essay. Although a detailed comparison is out of the scope of this commentary, the manuscript for Creation of Civilization, a great opus that Meishu-sama had not published at the time of his death, does not contain a section similar in scope to gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh of Medicine for Tomorrow, Volume 2 and Gospel of Heaven, although Creation of Civilization does contain a section similar to the as yet untranslated twenty-one-section chapter, essay, that soon follows gSymptoms of Diseases Discussed,h titled in the original, gByôkan to Igaku no Gobyû,h which could be rendered literally as gMaladies and the Fallacies of Medical Science.h For whatever reasons, in later works, Meishu-sama did not aim a spotlight on the symptoms as much as emphasize the diseases themselves, so the existence of gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh in Medicine for Tomorrow, Volume 2 and Gospel of Heaven is noteworthy for those who are studying Johrei as a method for physical healing as well.
     As described in The Light from the East, Medicine for Tomorrow, Volume 2 went through three editions. Some sub-sections of gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh show no changes, others, slight revisions. The version carried in these booklets is that of the third edition, published on October 4, 1943. The third edition was used with two factors in mind. First, the third edition shows more revision than the first or second editions. Second, the translator actually possesses a copy of the third edition, so the original text was able to be accessed without having to rely exclusively upon anthologized versions.
     The Gospel of Heaven version of gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh shows even more changes, but it should be noted that between 1943 Japan when Medicine for Tomorrow, Volume 2 appeared and 1947 Japan when Gospel of Heaven was published, Japan had gone through revolutions in all aspects. Japan was defeated in war, the whole social and political system completely changed, and Japan had lost sovereignty, being occupied by a foreign power. The occupying army had already begun changes in all aspects of society and those that concern us here are language changes. Japanese publishing, including language use and forms before and after 1945 are very different, and these changes are reflected in the differences between Medicine for Tomorrow, Volume 2 and Gospel of Heaven. Of course, in 1947, Meishu-sama is able to discuss the religious aspects of Johrei in addition to its role as a healing therapy.
      Before getting to the concluding remarks, there is one bibliographical-content aspect to a part of gSymptoms of Diseases Discussedh with which English readers may have already come into contact. The sub-section gFeverh contains teachings relating to the spiritual side of physical fever, and when the first anthology of Meishu-samafs teachings, Goshinsho: Shûkyô-hen (Divine Writings: Volume on Religion), was being produced, the editor excerpted from gSymptoms of Diseases Discussed,h the metaphysical description of fever, that is, of heat\fire and the other two elements, water and earth, and to the excerpted block attached the title gKaso, Suiso, Doso ni Tsuite.h The planning for the production of this anthology had begun while Meishu-sama was alive and he is said to have approved the contents of the volume. As the church grew and the original publications where Meishu-samafs teachings had appeared became scarce, this volume came to used by many ministers throughout Japan for study and the contents became well known. Indeed after Meishu-samafs death, when his wife directed the production of a newly conceived set of anthologies of Meishu-samafs teachings, gKaso, Suiso, Doso ni Tsuiteh was included in the third volume, Tengoku no Ishizue, Daisanhen (Foundation of Paradise, Volume 3), when it was published October 5, 1958. Bibliographical information for the three published translations of this excerpt are given below for reference.

     Still, Medicine for Tomorrow, Volume 2 and Gospel of Heaven do show similarities and the accompanying English translations in this booklet were made to reflect, as much as can be made to show in translation, the differences between as well as the similarities of the two versions. In that sense, it might be said that if these translations were aimed only at North American audiences for pastoral purposes, they would certainly be made differently. These translations were made into English that, as colloquial as possible, still tries to maintain the formal and semantic integrity of each text toward the other texts as well as seeking to provide a basis for translation into languages other than English.
