Great Construction

What Is a True Civilization?

At present I am in the midst of writing an important book to be called Creation of Civilization. The purpose of this volume is to inform the world that our present civilization contains fundamental errors and that it is not a true civilization. The most valid proof of this assertion is that no matter how much civilization progresses, the final goal of civilization, which is the happiness of humanity, shows no sign of becoming a reality. Rather, the reality is that as civilization advances, the very survival of humanity has come into question. So full of contradictions, civilization as presently constituted does not appear able to long endure, because the advance of civilization is supposed to mean nothing other than a step by step distancing from barbarism. Under no other condition is civilization possible. Humanity will eventually not only awaken to this point but will also go on to construct a true civilization that incorporates happiness for all. Permit me to announce that the time for the construction of this civilization is before us. The time is pressing because the fundamentals of the errors of our present civilization have been discovered by me.

Barbarism To Be Driven Away

My views will surely receive assent when the question is considered from a different perspective. That the world has advanced limitlessly is truth and is a fact that no one can deny. No matter the reason, the return of humanity to an age of barbarism is not possible. As civilization continues to progress and advance, barbarism will be driven completely out from humanity. It is on this basis that the true civilization should be. At this stage, humanity will come to dwell in a peaceful environment and enjoy happiness. Present civilization certainly does not fit this description, however. Threat of war and terror of pestilence continue as before, decreasing not a whit. Barbarism remains to a certain extent, and it is not that society does not become aware of this barbarism, rather it should be emphasized that members of the public live under the illusion that barbarism within themselves cannot be cut out of civilization. Indeed, the most significant aspect of this mistaken way of thinking is the fallacy embodied in medical science.
This fallacy is best seen in the fact that medicines and other measures which currently form of main methods of treatment in medical science do not heal, so doctors have recently come to more heavily depend on surgical operations. Such procedures call for cutting out flesh, bloodletting, cutting out and removing human organs, making holes in the body to drain pus and other poisonous liquids, and leaving behind awful scars when eruptions are cut off the skin. Not less than astonishing is that people take these barbaric practices to be progress. From our point of view, these measures are nothing but acts of cruel barbarity. Since practitioners cannot heal illness, they claim they are doing the next best thing and call it progress. Truth be speaking, such practices are not the progress of healing but only the progress of technique. A true healing art will not, in its treatment, cause any pain, result in any deformity, but will only remove the disease, and leave the physical body as it originally was. There is no real progress in the practice of healing unless these conditions are met.
A healing art that fulfills these conditions is indeed the healing art that I have discovered, so as my healing method spreads throughout the world, individuals will be liberated from the suffering of disease and the ideal of humanity, a world without disease, will become a reality. There is a reason why such an epoch-making science of healing should appear now. Current medical practices came about from material science, as all know. In contrast, our faith healing art was born from spiritual science, so the fundamentals of these two healing methods are entirely opposite. The fundamentals for the way of thinking that provides the basis for our healing art are that, contrary to medical science which views the human being as a material animal, our method considers the human being to be a spiritual animal. Which of these approaches is truth can be readily determined. Finding the answer may not seem to be an easy task, but it is quite simple in reality. Look at the results of the respective healing treatments. Test to see whether the method heals or not. There should be no more accurate way. In which case, if medical practitioners would look into our Johrei healing method, the question would be settled in one stroke. Whether for an appendicitis, or for any other symptom of pain, the comparison of which method, medical science or Johrei, heals more quickly and completely is all that would be necessary to make a determination without resort to convoluted theories or tricks since the winner would be the true healing art. Nevertheless, the public nowadays, regardless of the results, is possessed of the propensity to admit nothing that does not have the theoretical underpinnings that it agrees with. I give ample attention to this issue in the section on healing in Creation of Civilization. I explain theoretically and scientifically about the generation of germs and viruses, a vital issue that present-day medical science has yet to clarify, so I think most readers of my work will be persuaded.
There is a very profound reason why material medical science has been accepted until now as the highest level of knowledge.

Extinguishing the Suffering Caused by Disease

The easiest way to understand why medical science occupies such an exalted position is to look at the traditional ways disease has been healed. From ancient times until today, there has been in general terms, two main approaches to healing. One approach utilizes spiritual or mental aspects, praying to a god or a buddha oneself, having a priest or an ascetic praying in one’s stead, using magic, offering to replace oneself with a sick person, undertaking various forms of spiritual training, and other such practices, all of which can be characterized as being of the spiritual. Material approaches, in contrast, utilize medicines and injections, operate with instruments, apply radiation and physiotherapy, and as well as make use of folk remedies such as shiatsu and massage, but all these treatments are based essentially on the material. Both approaches, though, incline to an extreme. Contemporary civilization has been dazzled by the achievements of the astonishing progress and development of material science, and, even in the field of healing disease, has sought until today to resolve the problem through material science. Materialism has become the common, prevailing view, and the belief that if only materialistic methods were advanced, the suffering from disease could be extinguished from humanity came to be article of faith. The overly materialistic way of scientific thinking eventually arrived at the stage where even the reality of spirit was denied.
On a deeper level, we see that after humanity evolved to a certain extent, by God’s providence was born Eastern culture, which as I teach, is spiritual and mental and has accomplished much, but since Eastern culture goes to the extreme of denying the material, it ultimately fails and, as can be seen today, is in a state of decline. On the other hand, Western culture deprecating the spirit, has shown until today great progress based on thought that emphasizes the material. But Western culture has also been a civilization of failure. The present state of the world demonstrates this most aptly. Until today humanity has failed, having at one point favored the vertical, Eastern, and at another point, inclined toward the horizontal, Western. Culture has failed not just once but twice, and still humanity has not awakened to these failures, continuing along yet with its teeth clamped on a culture that cannot promise hope. This dire situation is the moment for a great historical change.

Midwife for a World Civilization

Into these conditions was born World Messianity. Our church excises the fallacies of failed civilization and teaches how a true civilization ought to be. For this, I continue to labor on Creation of Civilization. We proclaim as truth the fundamentals of the project for construction of a new civilization that inclines neither to the vertical nor to the horizontal, that is adaptable and elastic, both vertical and also horizontal, teaching truth in the way of golden mean. Basically, people will come to recognize the actuality of spirit and also understand that the progress of the material is to be respected as well. An outward expression of these principles is the Johrei method. Johrei releases spirit through the hand so it is power that fuses both spirit and body.
I, Mokichi Okada, therefore, am the midwife for as well as the supervisor of the birth of a true, civilized world.
