  大方の 冬去りゆきてさはやかに 雪解の山は匂ひ初めけり

 

Largely over, winter
Gone away, has begun
Freshly the smell
Of the mountain of
Melting snow.

    うらゝかに さす朝の陽に雪とけて 松の葉末に露の玉光る

  By the morning sun that
Gloriously shines, the
Snow melts and on the
Tips of the pine needles
Glistens drops of dew.

  The spring snow,
After falling,
Melts, as if
Gently whispering,
Droplets from the eaves.
