     Recently influenza is spreading throughout all regions of the nation and the signs are that it will increasingly rampage everywhere. Authorities have stirred themselves and are investigating its source, but at present it appears that the true cause is not known. The symptoms of the disease are “particularly chills, severe headaches, and pain in the neck, spine, back, arms, and legs. The disease is sometimes accompanied by diarrhea and stomach pains. Fever begins generally in five to seven days, but unless these symptoms are accompanied by respiratory inflammation or pneumonia, there is no danger to life,” according to Takumi Hayashi, an official of the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
     The preceding describes the conditions of the disease, but from the perspective of the science of our divine healing, this disease is a simple purification process and should always be looked upon favorably. Even when left alone, the condition will heal simply, and on this point, even medical science holds that it heals easily. Our view is that those who contract this disease can greatly increase their health. Rather than a cause for worry, influenza should actually be greatly welcomed. However, for medical science, which does not understand this point, it is not unreasonable that the disease should be a cause for concern, but for those of us who thoroughly understand its cause, every time we contract this disease, our appreciation to God continues and we cannot but be elated by our happiness.
     Because this influenza is a purification process of the surface of the human body, it is good but eventually a tremendous purification process of the solidified toxin deep within the body will generate. At this time, human beings will not get off so easily. Patients with severe symptoms will continuously appear, and there will most likely be deaths. At this time, the fortunate ones will seek out World Messianity and be saved, but those who do not try to find us will have unfortunate results, so it would be fair to state that it will be this very moment which is a sort of mental test in which God separates good and evil.

“Ima Ryūkō no Infuruenza” appeared originally on the front page of Kyūsei, Issue 48, February 4, 1950. Although no translations are known to exist, “Ima Ryūkō no Infuruenza” was reprinted in the anthology Igaku Kankei Goronbun Shū (Collected Essays on Medical Science) that did enjoy a limited circulation. Igaku Kankei Goronbun Shū contains no publication data, but internal evidence suggests that its editing stopped several months preceding Meishu-sama’s Ascension. Furthermore, since the book lacks publication data, whether the volume had Meishu-sama’s imprimatur or not is unknown, so details concerning this volume are probably impossible to research.
